Built in 1963 Broadcasting House contained broadcasting and recording studios for public radio, commercial radio stations and the first Access Community radio station in New Zealand (Wellington Access Radio 2YB). Access radio began in April 1981. Broadcasting House was destroyed by fire in 1997 (it was already being demolished at the time of the fire).
