Born in Wellington in 1927 Brake trained with portrait photographer Spencer Digby from 1945. Brake is one of New Zealand's best know photographers. Much of his work is now cared for by the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa in Wellington. Brake died in August 1988.
