Christchurch-raised musician Anika Moa is helping push a Trade Me fundraising auction, to raise money for the city in the wake of the horrific quake. The lesbian songstress, who has tweeted that her family is ok, has now turned her attention to those who need help. She is spreading the word about a signed one-off picture of her by Rose Hardy, which is up for grabs on Trade Me. Rose Hardy made one print for each of the 2010 Vodafone NZ Music Awards Best Female Solo Artist nominees, a category which Moa won. All the proceeds from the auction will go to Christchurch relief - and bids are already surpassing $100. Other signed items from artists including: Coldplay, Good Charlotte, Chemical Brothers, Kenny Rogers, Massive Attack are being auctioned also, with more to come. From the US, lesbian talkshow host Ellen Degeneres is urging people to help fundraising efforts for the Christchurch earthquake. She has brought the disaster to the attention of her fans worldwide by putting details of the relief fund on Twitter, with a link to the Red Cross website. "After a devastating earthquake, New Zealand desperately needs our help. You can donate to the relief fund here," she has written.
