Mr Urge Bear 2011 Arthur For the first time in its six year history, the Mr Urge NZ Bear title is leaving Auckland. Mr Bear Christchurch Arthur took out the crown before a packed out Urge Bar on Friday night, as part of the Get It On! Bear New Zealand week. The 20-year-old, who is also the youngest ever winner, defeated five other contestants to become New Zealand's official representative at the Mr Australasia Bear competition in June in Melbourne. Arthur is Canterbury born and raised and lives in Oamaru and had entered the Urge competition after recently winning the inaugural Mr Bears Christchurch event. "A massive thanks to those who supported the contestants and the NZAF, also to the contestants themselves. Thanks to Christchurch Bears for getting me up here for what has been an awesome week, and well bring on Melbourne," said the beaming winner. The Mr Urge NZ Bear event is also a fundraiser and this year a total of $1,600 was raised for the New Zealand AIDS Foundation. The Bear New Zealand week continues with the big Tri-Nations dance party at 4:20 Bar at 373 Karangahape Road on Saturday night before winding down with a chilled out BBQ on Sunday.
