Facebook adds civil unions, but not in NZ

Facebook has added civil unions and domestic partnerships to the relationship types user can pick from, but not in New Zealand. However the options are only available to Facebook users in the US, Canada, the UK, France and Australia, a country list which does not align with the growing number of countries which actually legally recognise them. France has civil unions, the UK has civil partnerships, Australia only accepts gay couples as de-facto partners, while the US has wildly varying same-sex marriage laws in different states, but no federal recognition. The change follows lobbying from the US group Gay
