An Australian DJ who is said to have such spinning prowess she will "keep your heart pumping and ensure you won't want to leave the dance floor all night" will feature at the Outgames' signature party for women. Presented by The Velvet Club, which is running the entertainment programme for women attending the games, Meow will be held at Meow Bar on Edward St on Friday 18th March. "Goddess of the Beats" DJ Sandi Hotrod will be taking control of the decks from 11pm. She has a long pedigree of DJ'ing in the Sydney club scene and beyond, with a residency at ARQ, regular Hotrod Sundays at The Colombian - while she was the headlining DJ at the Tropical Fruits New Year's Day after party this year. Hotrod has DJ'd at the Sydney Leather Pride for 11 years, and the Dykes on Bikes have been a huge part of her life also, with her playing at all their Mardi Gras after parties. She was involved in selecting DJs for the 2002 Mardi Gras and opened the VIP room in 2008, then headlined the Queens Ball in 2009 and started playing at Bitch in 2010, along with many other lesbian and gay events, including the Devious Party in Wellington last January. She is also the favorite DJ for the Sydney Harbour Bears. As well as being the Mistress of the Decks, and Goddess of the Beats with her electro dirty house, Meow promoters say she is a captivating act to watch: "Her stage presence is exceptional and her energy excites and captivates as you watch her work the decks." Hotrod's remixes of some old school tunes such as Madonna's Like a Prayer, where she mixes in bass and percussion in a style she calls minimalist tribal fusion, are said to be stunning. "She is guaranteed to keep your heart pumping and ensure you won't want to leave the dance floor all night," promoters say, while keeping some things close to their chest: "Also guaranteed to keep your heart pumping is another performer who will do her utmost make sure that you Lap it Up at Meow," they hint. Wellington's own DJ Bullitt will open the party at 9pm - she has been DJ'ing for Wellington women for over ten years starting her career at the DOODs dances. She describes her style as proudly old-skool, that is "new-skool old-skool mixing up disco, funk and rock to keep your feet dancing". She has spent many years entertaining us with her involvement with the Drag Kings, and most lesbian dance events will see Bullitt doing a set on the decks.
