Mon 7 Feb 2011 In: International News View at Wayback View at NDHA

Edinburgh, the Scottish capital Police statistics show a disturbing fivefold increase in reported hate crimes against gays and lesbians in Scotland in the past five years. The crimes, which were revealed after a freedom of information request to Scotland's eight police districts, include violent attacks, indecent assaults, abuse and vandalism against people targeted just because of their sexual orientation. The figures show there were 666 incidents of homophobic abuse in 2009-10, almost double the 364 incidents reported in 2007-8, and almost five times the 114 incidents reported in 2004-5.
