Outgames fees about to increase

Tue 1 Feb 2011 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

If you haven't registered for the AsiaPacific Outgames, it's time to get into gear, unless you want to be slapped with a late fee. Entry will cost more from February 7 for the Wellington event, which is set to be a major highlight on the 2011 calendar. Organisers say registrations are continuing to pour in for the 16 sports competitions and the Human Right Conference. They say participant numbers for some events – including the dancesport, running, and ten pin bowling competitions, as well as the conference – already exceed those of the 1st AsiaPacific Outgames held in Melbourne in 2008. Outgames co-chair David Hindley says planning is running very smoothly, although there are a few pressure points around the fact that March is already a busy time of year. “We have been told by Accor, our hotel group sponsor, that the discounted hotel rooms on offer to Outgames participants and supporters are going to be filled well before March.” Details of new events being held during the Outgames week – including a dinner in the brand new and very spectacular whare waka (canoe house) on the Wellington waterfront – are being added to the Outgames website on a regular basis. The 2nd AsiaPacific Outgames is 8 days of sports competition, a human rights conference, a major arts and culture festival, and social events and parties in Wellington, New Zealand, 12-19 March 2011. Information is available, and registrations can be made, on the website www.welllingtonoutgames.com. Registrations close 26 February.
