Ditto teams up with Tea to write memoir

Sun 9 Jan 2011 In: International News View at Wayback

Musician and lesbian diva Beth Ditto is teaming up with award-winning queer author Michelle Tea to pen her memoir, Coal To Diamonds. A release date has not been set for the musings of the outspoken Gossip frontwoman, but AfterEllen.com says it will explore Ditto's childhood in Arkansas, her experiences in becoming a music icon, a "lesbian diva," trials with self-image, and self-love. "My life was supposed to be simple and non-negotiable: birth, church, work, marriage, kids, death," Ditto says, "but along the way something happened. Coal to Diamonds is my story - growing up feeling like you are on the margins of society and struggling to find your place. My memoir talks directly to disenfranchised, misunderstood kids everywhere." Michelle Tea, also a spoken word poet, is an up-front author whose autobiographical writing explored her own experiences in the queercore community.
