Anika Moa leads Big Gay Out line-up

Fri 17 Dec 2010 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Lesbian songstress Anika Moa will headline the 2011 Big Gay Out. Promoted by Get It On! and sponsored by condom maker Durex, the Big Gay Out will return to Coyle Park in the Auckland suburb of Pt Chevalier on Sunday, 13 February 2011. Last year more than 10,000 people packed into the park for the highlight of the gay calendar. Moa is one of New Zealand's best-loved musicians, with a career spanning more than twelve years, including three self-penned albums, platinum sales success and a clutch of award nominations. The 30-year-old came out in 2007 and wedded her burlesque dancer partner Azaria Universe at the beginning of this year. Get it On! says it's over the moon that Moa will be performing at the Big Gay Out. "Anika is one of Aotearoa New Zealand's acclaimed musicians as well as an out and proud member of the gay community, which means a brilliant response from the crowd is guaranteed." The full line-up of performers will be released soon and selected spots remain for quality bands, comedians, solo artists and dance performances. Anyone who thinks they have the goods can contact Steph on 09 300 6955. The Slip‘n'Slide will make a return in 2011, while the market area will host a range of locally produced and specialty products, and community organisations and political groups will be drumming up support. The Caluzzi and Urge Beer Garden, a busy attraction in 2010, will return with increased capacity and shade-covered seating. The Get it On! Big Gay Out will run from 12:00pm to 7.00pm on Sunday, 13 February 2011 at Coyle Park, Pt Chevalier Rd, Auckland. Entry is by gold coin donation, the proceeds of which cover the cost of the day.
