Shaun Robinson 10.35AM: The New Zealand AIDS Foundation board has hired its new Executive Director, a straight man from the East Coast with an impressive CV and a declared passion for reducing the rate of HIV infection. Shaun Robinson has been selected over five other short-listed candidates after an interview by the NZAF Trust Board and "key external stakeholders," followed by a separate interview by NZAF members, service users, staff and volunteers. Trust Board chair Alastair Cameron says Robinson was the standout from an impressive group of candidates. "This was a very comprehensive recruitment process that resulted in a high calibre of candidates. We're very pleased that so many talented people were interested in leading the NZAF into the future." Cameron says the board is pleased with the announcement. "Shaun has worked in the social services sector for the last fifteen years and he has a wealth of experience in successfully leading non‐government organisations to deliver better outcomes for at‐risk communities. He now brings his talent and skill to the NZAF, along with a commitment to deliver better HIV outcomes for the most at‐risk communities." Robinson has been a policy advisor for ex-Prime Minister Helen Clark and President of the New Zealand Council of Christian Social Services and was the CEO of Presbyterian Support East Coast until July this year. "I have two passions," Robinson says, "seeing societies become more just, and seeing not for profit organisations perform to the highest levels." Robinson's first day in charge will be on Monday, 24 January 2011. He says he is eager to meet and talk with all NZAF staff and key stakeholders in his first few months. "There will be an open meeting in late January that will provide me with an opportunity to meet anyone who is interested in the mission of the NZAF, including key stakeholders, NZAF members and volunteers. The NZAF has always been centred on the needs of the communities it services and I'm very excited about participating in that." He currently lives in Te Awanga on the East Coast and will be moving to Auckland with his partner Kelli and four children. 1.00PM: A full feature story based on an interview conducted this morning with Shaun Robinson and Alastair Cameron has now been posted on the GayNZ.com front page.
