Men allegedly order "gay" pair out of town

Two North Otago men have been accused of a hate crime after allegedly kidnapping two men they wrongly believed were gay and ordering them out of town. A 41-year-old from Oamaru and 40-year-old from Hampden are charged with kidnapping over the incident in Moeraki on Thursday night, the Otago Daily Times reports. Hampden police Senior Constable Darrin Low told Dunedin District Court yesterday that one man who had been detained said he had "never known fear like it". The accused were remanded in custody when they appeared in the Dunedin District Court yesterday and will appear again on Thursday. Read the full Otago Daily Times story here
