Homophones promise eccentric reportoire

Sat 20 Nov 2010 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Wellington gay men's chorus the Homophones will perform its annual concert at St Andrew's on The Terrace on Sunday afternoon. The choir was established in 2008 and over the last three years has performed at the Outtakes Festival, the Aids Candlelight Memorial, and given its own concerts. Earlier this year they flew to Auckland to take part in the Out and Loud choral festival, a gathering of gay and lesbian choirs from around Australasia. The annual concert at St Andrew's on the Terrace has become a staple of the choir's calendar. This year The Homophones are presenting To All The Boys We've Loved Before, an eclectic repertoire of songs that explore expressions of love. From a re-gendered version of the 16th-century madrigal Amarilli Mio Bello, to a rendition of the Scottish folk song My Love Is Like a Red Red Rose from poet Robbie Burns, and even to a delightful new take on the pop number Lollipop. Also included is a new arrangement of that perennial icon of gay song, Somewhere Over the Rainbow. To All the Boys We've Loved Before will be performed at St-Andrew's-on-the-Terrace, 30 The Terrace, Wellington, at 4 pm on Sunday 21 November. Tickets $15 waged/$10 unwaged. Ticket price includes a glass of wine and light refreshments prior to the performance.
