Riff-Raff vigil to mark trans remembrance

Fri 19 Nov 2010 In: New Zealand Daily News View at NDHA

The Riff-Raff statue Hamilton's Riff-Raff statue will tonight be decorated with candles and flowers in a vigil to mark the 12th Annual International Transgender Day of Remembrance. People all over the world remember and honour those who died from anti-transgender violence and bullying on the November 20th. Agender Waikato and Hamilton Pride, which are organising the Hamilton commemoration, say even today the deaths of those based on anti-transgender hatred or prejudice are largely ignored. From 7.30pm onwards, all are invited to meet at the Riff-Raff statue on Victoria St to make a stand against violence, bullying and discrimination. There is a webcam at the statue so the Hamilton commemoration will be broadcast world-wide here
