Ricky Martin has given a tell-all interview to Oprah Winfrey, revealing he decided to come out earlier this year because of his children. The singer fathered twins Valentino and Matteo two years ago using a surrogate mother. "Before I decided to become a father, I already accepted who I was," Martin said. "I was happy with who I was. When I held my children, I said, 'OK, it's time to tell the world.'" He added "My kids gave me all the strength to come out. They gave me that final push. If I didn't come out for them, what was I going to be teaching them -- how to lie? I don't want my family to be based on lies." Martin claims the recent string of young gay suicides are evident that gay people must be allowed to come out when they are ready. "Right now we are dealing with people that are being bullied because they are gay and now we're dealing with people who are committing suicide because they're forced to come out and that is horrible... You have to go through a very spiritual process in order for you to accept yourself and then it feels amazing." Martin's autobiography is released this week and is dedicated to his twin boys.
