The much-awaited review of services provided to people with HIV will be publicly released tomorrow, according to a source in the Ministry of Health. The Review of Services For People Living With HIV In New Zealand, by Dr David Miller, was initially expected to be released earlier this year. However, its progress towards going public has gained momentum over the past week when, in two closed-door sessions, it was given limited release to HIV positive peer support organisations and the NZ AIDS Foundation, followed by infectious diseases clinicians and sexual health agencies. According to figures collated regularly by the AIDS Epidemiology Group at Otago University considerably more than half of the people living with HIV in New Zealand are gay and bisexual men. Gay and bi men still represent the vast majority of people contracting HIV within New Zealand.
