At least I'm not gay – Silvio Berlusconi

Wed 3 Nov 2010 In: International News View at NDHA

Silvio Berlusconi Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has attempted to defend himself against reports prostitutes attended parties at his Sardinian villa by saying it's better to love beautiful women than be gay. A prostitute was reported to have told police of her involvement in so-called "bunga-bunga" sex parties at Berlusconi's home while being questioned in an investigation into alleged cocaine dealing. Berlusconi is laughing off the claims, which follow a teenage Moroccan belly dancer saying last week she had witnessed similar parties in his Milan home. "Better to have a passion for beautiful women than to be gay," he told a business audience. "Bunga-bunga" refers to a joke often told by Mr Berlusconi and it has dominated news bulletins, appeared in newspaper cartoons and featured widely in discussions among Italians, according to The Telegraph. The phrase is said to come either from the punch-line to one of the Berlusconi's rude jokes or an erotic ritual that he learned from Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. Gay Italians have responded to Berlusconi's slur by holding a demonstration outside his residence in Rome, holding up signs such as "Better Gay Than a Pig".
