Slave Auction raises $2,000 for fundraiser

Tue 2 Nov 2010 In: New Zealand Daily News View at NDHA

The Urge Slave Auction has raised over $2,000 for Help Out in October, with the K' Rd bar adding a total of $2,700 to the fundraising effort from its events over the month. The top lots on the night were the generously proportioned gift baskets from Erox Lifestyle, which raised a total of $410. A bungy jump with radio jock Mike Puru went for around $150. "We want to thank all the businesses and individuals who donated the auction items, as well as the brave slaves who took to the stage, and of course everyone who bought lots on the night," says Urge co-owner Alan Granville. The full amount raised from Help Out in October will be announced at the Gay Auckland Business Association's Fruits After Five meeting at Dot's tomorrow night. The meeting will also be addressed by Labour MP Jacinda Ardern, who will address GABA for the first time. Adern is currently a list MP who has won the candidacy for Auckland Central in next year's election. She will announce a return of the Hero Debate which in future years will be organised in conjunction with GABA and serve as a joint fundraiser for the GABA Charitable Trust. Fruits after Five starts at 5.30pm, with entry free for GABA members and $10 for non-members. This will be GABA's last meeting at Dot's before it makes its annual move to support LGBT venues around Auckland. GABA is thanking hosts Peter and Rodney for their warm hospitality and generous support over the past year. From December 1, Fruits After Five will return to Kamo on K' Rd for the GABA Ho Ho Homo Christmas Party.
