Body Positive is launching a new weekly evening group for people living with HIV or AIDS, particularly for people who work during the day. Club Phoenix is designed to allow everyone to get together, regardless of gender or sexual orientation. “We believe that this will provide positive people with greater avenues to develop and maintain strong support systems through social networking,” Body Positive says. “Often upon diagnosis of being HIV positive, people can sometimes find it hard to have real purpose or meaning. A lot of things can change in our lives, it is often lonely and isolating and some times the uncertainness can be quite debilitating. Hence the Club Phoenix by-line; Getting on with Life reminds us of the importance of doing just that. “Even for those living longer term with HIV or AIDS the isolation from time to time can turn our thoughts inward as the journey thus far has been pretty full on. Yet your strength and wisdom when shared does make a big difference to those within our community.” The group launches this Wednesday, with a camaraderie and peer support in a relaxed, casual and confidential environment promised. “Come and share your thoughts, experiences and sense of humour or just come in for a social chat,” Body Positive says. Body Positive house will be open from 7pm to 10pm every Wednesday, with hot and cold non-alcoholic drinks and easy listening café style music to chill out to. A gold coin koha/donation to help cover costs is encouraged but not expected and attendees can bring along snacks or finger food to share if they wish.
