Mitcham delighted with springboard silver

Matthew Mitcham Gay diver Matthew Mitcham won silver in the men's one metre springboard competition at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi overnight. The Australian came second to Canadian Alexandre Despatie, who is a springboard specialist and won his first Commonwealth Games gold medal competing at Kuala Lumpur at the age of 13. Mtcham will compete in his favourite event, the 10 metre platform, on Wednesday night , hoping to repeat his gold medal success at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He is also competing in the three metre synchronised springboard, 10 metre synchronised platform in Delhi. Mitcham told reporters he hopes his performance in the springboard will help him in his other events. "I'm not disappointed at all, this silver medal feels like a gold medal to me," he said. "It's my first Commonwealth Games medal at all, it's a springboard event and I never expected to do so well, so I couldn't be happier with myself."
