Over three hundred glbt New Yorkers have gathered in the main concourse of Grand Central Station to stage what they called a "Flash Mob: Homophobia Kills Die-in." The flash mob came together at rush hour on Friday evening with activist Allan Bounville whistling to start the protest. Hundreds of protesters immediately laid down on the floor as a large banner was unfurled, reading "End Homo/Transphobic Apartheid in America. After the names of people who have died due to homophobic ansd transphobic bullying were called out the protesters dispersed. The action came amidst a nationwide dialogue about a spate of recent suicides by young American gay men — some as young as 13 — who experienced harassment and violence, generally at the hands of school classmates.
