Special votes are still to be counted. ****** 8.00pm: City Councillor Dave Cull has wrestled the mayoral chains from Peter Chin in Dunedin. ****** 7.00pm: The Wellington mayoral race is proving to be an utter nail biter. Incumbent Kerry Prendergast leads contender Celia Wade-Brown by just 40 votes. The final result in the capital may not be known until Wednesday, as there are still 900 special votes to be counted. Gay candidate Seann Paurini has missed out on a place on the council. He was standing in the Southern Ward. ******     4.35pm: Jevan Goulter has failed to win a seat on the Whanganui District Council, following his colourful campaign which included a drag stunt, a pageant spat and an altercation with Michael Laws. Goulter received 1,023 votes in his bid to get on the council, placing him third to last among the 32 candidates. Michael Laws has made it onto the council, while Annette Main has replaced him as Whanganui Mayor. ******               2.15pm Tim Shadbolt will keep wearing the mayoral chains in Invercargill. He has beaten a challenge from singer Suzanne Prentice. ****** 1.50pm: Bob Parker will remain the Mayor of Christchurch after being his nearest rival by more than 16,000 votes. Preliminary results have the incumbent on 68,245 votes, with Jim Anderton on 51,566. Parker, whose campaign was helped by his reaction to the devastating earthquake which rocked the city, has told media he's humbled by the result.
