Carter to withdraw nomination for Te Atatu

Thu 7 Oct 2010 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback View at NDHA

Chris Carter 11:40am: Gay MP Chris Carter has decided to withdraw his nomination for the Te Atatu seat. Carter was expelled from the Labour caucus in July after writing a letter to media claiming a coup was planned against Phil Goff. He then took two months sick leave. He returned to Parliament last month, when his sick leave ran out. Carter's membership of the Labour Party is being considered by the party's national council, which has started disciplinary action against him. However Carter has this morning told GayNZ.com Daily News he is withdrawing his nomination for the Te Atatu seat. "It's quite obvious that if I don't that they'll just chuck me out on Monday so it's quite that in spite of every attempt at reconciliation it's just not possible."
