Melissa Keevers and Rosemary Nolan (Woman's Day) A lesbian couple from Brisbane have hit headlines across the world, over the news they are expecting quintuplets. Melissa Keevers, 27, and her Irish girlfriend Rosemary Nolan, 21, used a sperm donor from America to conceive. They were shocked when their doctor announced that they would be having five babies, not one. Keevers was impregnated through artificial insemination, she did not undergo any hormone-based fertility treatment. The chances of naturally conceiving quintuplets are less than one in 60 million. They spoke to Australia's Woman's Day magazine, with Keevers saying she was in shock for weeks after learning she was carrying five babies. "During the scan the doctor asked us if we wanted the news, but as he looked pale, we were worried something was wrong," she said. "He then told us he'd found five gestational sacs meaning, if all went well, we'd have five babies. We can't repeat what we said next. "It took me a long time to get my head around what was happening. But now I've come to terms with it, I'm excited." The couple already have a one-year-old daughter. Nolan said her father had feared he would not have any grandchildren. "So I proved him wrong," she told Woman's Day. "Two ladies and six babies."
