As Gay Crisis Month is about to swing into action, the GABA Charitable Trust is already looking at ways it can help make the GLBT community self-sufficient for the future. The trust is supporting community-driven initiative Help Out in October, which is aiming to raise $25,000 for Body Positive, the Charlotte Museum, Rainbow Youth and OUTLine. A series of events will be run across the month urging members of the community to donate to the cash-strapped groups, or take it a step further and make even more of a difference by running their own event or fundraiser. The GABA Charitable Trust has now also launched a 'passive donation' initiative, asking people to make a weekly or monthly donation by automatic bank payment. The trust will gather the funds with the intention of building to the point where it can fully support the aims and needs of GLBT organisations. "2010 is our chance for us to help set us on the path to help make our own community self-sufficient," says GABA President and trustee Glenn Sims, who is one of the key players in the Help Out in October fundraising drive. "As part of the Help Out in October initiative we are encouraging you to consider setting up an automatic payment from your bank account." Sims points out that just 1,000 people donating $5 a week, or the cost of a cup of coffee, would raise $260,000. "To put this into perspective, $260,000 would almost fully fund Rainbow Youth AND OUTLine for an entire year!" To kickstart automatic payments, all current members of the GABA Executive have pledged to donate a minimum of $5 per week. To donate a regular amount each week or fortnight, monthly or quarterly, there are two ways that you can do this. You can either set up an automatic payment via online banking using the following account number: ASB 12 3064 0216613 00 Or Please download and print out an automatic payment form here Fill it out, then send it to: The GABA Charitable Trust, PO Box 3092, Shortland Street, Auckland 1140 The GABA Charitable Trust will be in touch on receipt of your Automatic Payment Form. It will also provide you with an annual tax receipt.
