Chris Carter's sick leave officially runs out

Wed 22 Sep 2010 In: New Zealand Daily News View at NDHA

Chris Carter Chris Carter's sick leave runs out today, but it remains unclear when he will return to Parliament. Stuff reports that if he wanted to extend his leave, the independent MP needed to call Speaker Lockwood Smith by 10pm last night with a satisfactory explanation for his absence. Smith told the website he had not heard from Carter since last week. If he does not show up or present a sick note, the Te Atatu MP will have $10 a day docked from his salary. After tomorrow's sitting, the House is not scheduled to sit again until October. It's understood Carter may return to Parliament after that break. 4PM update: Carter has apparently returned to Parliament today, but is keeping a low profile and has not appeared in the debating chamber.
