Cut-off looms for conference presenters

Tue 21 Sep 2010 In: New Zealand Daily News

Time is running out for anyone who wants to make a presentation at the second AsiaPacific Outgames Conference in Wellington in March, to register their interest. Organisers of the human rights event say the cut-off date for anyone who wants to present is 30 September. Conference Convenor Barry Taylor says there have been expressions of interest from people in a wide range of countries, from Fiji to the Philippines, India and even further afield, as well as Australia and New Zealand. "We have had some really interesting proposals from people involved in grass roots activities," he says. "These presentations would share information and learnings about how groups come together and then do things like fight homophobia in schools, or create new ways of documenting their lives." Mr Taylor says the whole presentation is not required by 30 September, just a 250 word description of what sort of presentation is planned.Criteria and requirements can be found here All presenters must register for the conference and there is no financial assistance specifically available for presenters. A scholarship programme to help people to attend the conference will be available. Keynote speakers for the conference will be announced shortly. The full conference programme will be announced later in the year. The 2nd AsiaPacific Outgames is 8 days of sports, a human rights conference, shows and parties, arts and cultural events and exhibitions. It runs 12–19 March 2011.
