The Heroic Gardens Festival will mark its 15th anniversary next March and is looking for more green thumbs who want to show off their hard work. The 2011 edition of Auckland's only region-wide gardeners' festival will be held on the weekend of March 5-6. Last year 17,000 people strolled through gay gardens across the region, raising $51,500 for the Hospices of Auckland. The gardeners have chosen the Hospices of Auckland to again be the beneficiary for 2011. The organising team is keen to add new and exciting gardens to and build on what they describe as a very strong brand of gardens with a difference. "Our scouts are out looking for those gardens with an edge - that break boundaries – that do something different or better," says spokesperson Gill Franklin. "If you know of such a garden or you are such a gardener please let us know. If you are in a business that might like to sponsor a garden – this will give you huge opportunities for exposure."
