A gay former Waikato school principal has been deregistered for selling school property for personal gain, at the same time as he is taking a case to the Human Rights Commission alleging he was harassed due to his sexuality. Ex principal of Huntly West Primary School Barry Bloomfield has been officially censured by the Teachers Disciplinary Tribunal for fraudulent behaviour. He spent five months on home detention after he obtained more than $17,400 in relief teacher payments from the Ministry of Education, for a fake teacher. He also sold a school fence on Trade Me for $4,600 and put the money into his own bank account. Bloomfield has a case before the Human Rights Commission, as he claims the school harassed him for being gay. The NZ Herald reports that case is going through the mediation process. When contacted by GayNZ.com, Bloomfield said "at this point in time I have no comment to make."
