Freddie Mercury British comic actor Sasha Baron Cohen has been signed to play bisexual superstar Freddie Mercury in a biopic scheduled to begin filming next year. Mercury was the outrageously camp frontman for the supergroup Queen and never publicly acknowledged his sexuality. However, he is known to have had relationships with both men and women. The film will cover the period from the formation of Queen until its renowned Live Aid show in 1985. Mercury died of an AIDS-related illness in 1991. Sasha Baron Cohen Cohen is famous for his provocative characters and movies, the most recent of which saw hi m portraying an effete and none to intelligent gay male Austrian model, Bruno. He has appeared and sung in a musical film before, playing the self-important Italian barber bested by Johnny Depp in the 2007 movie Sweeney Todd the demon barber of Fleet Street.
