Lady Gaga may have cleaned up at the MTV Video Music Awards, but her outfit is being described as a bloody mess. She took to the stage in a matching dress, boots, hat and purse which appeared to be made from raw meat. However, the ensemble was actually made from fabric – and designed by fashion designer Franc Fernandez. Gaga was presented with Video Of The Year for Bad Romance by Cher. She handed Cher her purse and told the audience "I never thought I'd be asking Cher to hold my meat purse." Her dress, she explained later, was designed to draw attention to the need to fight for gay rights. Bloggers and celebrity watchers were not so impressed with the outfit, with descriptions ranging from a "bloody mess", to unsanitary, wasteful, trite and passé. However Gaga did win over the VMA judges, winning a stack of awards.
