Greg Mayor TV2's Outhouse co-presenter Greg is a Ngati Pukenga, Ngati Pikiao and Chitty Malacca (Malaysia) army brat "who grew up all over the shop." What's your background? Iwi affiliations: Ngati Pukenga, Ngati Pikiao and Chitty Malacca (Malaysia). I'm an army brat who grew up all over the shop but the places I call home are Waiouru, Singapore, Whangarei and Waiheke Island. What do you enjoy most about The Outhouse, your new TV show? The raft of new challenges. For TV it's a new approach, a move away from magazine format which seems to be favoured for 'minority' programming. It might take a few people by surprise. For myself, a move to being in front of the camera. I've been working in television production for 15 years behind the scenes, presenting is all new, exciting and scary at the same time. What characterises the NZ GLBT community for you? When it counts… we can present a united front! What is the worst thing for you about being GLBT? The assumption of who I am as a person, is defined by my sexuality. Greg is gay… therefore he is… x y or z. What is the best thing? I guess it's the permission to live outside some of the normal rules of Kiwi blokeness… the lads will order me a Central Otago Pinot at a test match. Relationship status? Married. Favourite food and drink? Anything prepared by my Mother, my sister or my Waiheke lesbian wives. And vodka (homegrown of course, 42 Below). Worst habit? Chronic smoker. Most noble feature? My dog (aristocratic French Bulldog, M. Thibault De La Pamplemousse). Favourite TV programme? The Simpsons. Favourite movie? Cosi! Great Aussie film about mental patients staging an opera as therapy. Qualities you most appreciate in a GLBT person? The same qualities I appreciate in anyone: honesty, optimism and humility. What are you reading at the moment? Sheet music for the guitar (I've just started learning). Who in the world including NZ would you most like to have a coffee and a chat with? My husband… he's so bloody busy we never get the chance! Role models? My Parents and Grandparents. What is the most pressing issue currently facing the NZ GLBT population? Who do we vote for! If you could have one wish granted, what would it be? To happy healthy and filthy rich! GayNZ.com - 30th September 2005
