Anika Moa In her third time as a finalist, established lesbian songstress Anika Moa once again missed out on the nation's premier after songwriting prize. Youthful band The Naked and Famous have won the award for their song Young Blood, which propelled them from indie favourites on the Auckland scene to chart toppers. The ethereal track is in the same vein as much of the alternative music which has made waves across the globe in the past few years, with many comparisons to indie hitmakers MGMT. The band was presented with the Silver Scroll at a ceremony at Auckland's Town Hall last night. Anthony Healey from the Australasian Performing Rights Association described the track as stroppy, youthful and energetic. “It makes me want to be eighteen again,” he said. “It seems like the perfectly written song for this very point in time. It should take the world by storm.” The Naked and Famous A highlight of the Silver Scrolls ceremony is the finalists' tracks being reworked and performed by musicians, with a very different sound than the original. Young Blood was given a reggae makeover by Three Houses Down. Anika Moa's nominated song, Running Through The Fire (Storm), was turned up a few notches by The Datsuns. Moa has been nominated for Silver Scroll Awards twice before, for Stolen Hill in 2006 and Dreams In My Head in 2008. The other three nominated songs this year were Artisan Guns' Autumn, Julia Deans' A New Dialogue and The Mint Chicks' Say Goodbye.
