Auckland's Urge Bar is once again raising funds to combat a disease which claims the lives of 600 men in New Zealand every year. The K' Rd bar is asking patrons to show their true colours for Blue September, a fundraiser in the fight against prostate cancer, which 2,500 men are diagnosed with every year in this country. The initiative was set up by the Cancer Foundation of New Zealand (PCFNZ) to raise money to support ongoing awareness, research and support of sufferers. It's the third year that Urge is supporting the charity with it's own version, Blue SeptemBEAR, after raising over $2,000 in previous years. However it's the first time the bar has dedicated a whole weekend to raising funds. On Saturday September 11 it will host a charity night with a dress code of Blue, asking for gold coin donations and handing out a limited number of blue cocktails. On Sunday September 12 Urge is throwing one of its ever-popular Underware Parties. Tickets are $10, with 50 percent of the proceeds going to the charity. Urge co-owner Alan Granville says collection buckets will be at the bar throughout September. “We already have over $700 for the charity from our recent Mr URGE Leather night, so we are hoping to hand over a very sizeable cheque to the PCFNZ.”
