Family Bar and Club will this Sunday mark five years as the hot beating pulse of Auckland's gay nightlife with a party to remember. It will have an open bar, for beer, wine, fruit juice and spirits, for one hour from 6pm, to thank the customers who keep its dancefloor packed and sweaty, weekend in and weekend out. There will also be nibbles and cocktails upon arrival. Resident drag queen and hostess Miss Ribena says Family's Fab-u-Lash 5th Birthgay will feature continuous shows, including "a real big fabulous blast from the past." She agrees that a number of clubs have opened and closed in the five years Family has remained stable. When GayNZ.com asks what has been the secret to the K' Rd establishment's success she states "me," before erupting into laughter and explaining that it's the entertainment that keeps people coming back. "You know what makes Family different from 200 other nightclubs in Auckland City? Drag. It's all about the entertainment, the events, the functions, the charity fundraisers we do. The whole package – smoking area, street level, camp music, karaoke," she says. "But it's all about the drag – it's all about the drag." And there will be plenty of drag at Family's Fab-u-Lash 5th Birthgay From 6pm till late, Sunday 22 August
