Hikoi marches on towards grand finale

The Hikoi hits Christchurch, Miss Ribena is on the right The New Zealand AIDS Foundation's Hikoi on Heels has already raised around $5,000 heading into its final stop in Wellington this Saturday night. The Christchurch leg of the fundraiser at Cruz Bar, co-hosted by Miss Ribena and Jacquie Grant, saw the crowd dip into its pockets to the tune of $1,500, adding to the more than $3,500 raised already. The multi-stop event, which kicked off in Whangarei before hitting Auckland, Hamilton then Christchurch, is gathering funds for Hui Takatāpui, a conference which will this year focus on the health and wellbeing of GLBT Maori youth. Hikoi on Heels features drag queens from across the country performing Kiwi-themed shows, with everything from poi to comedy. The grand finale will be at Wellington's Club Ivy, on Dixon St, at 9pm this Saturday. Organisers promise in will be the most extravagant show yet. Miss Ribena, who has been pivotal in organising the Hikoi says "It's been out of control ... one waka and a whole lot of outrageousness." Hui Takatāpui is being held 29 ‐31 October at Wellington's Pipitea Marae.
