It has brand new offices and now Auckland-based phone support organisation OUTLine is seeking a new General Manager. The position was last held by Lesley Belcham, whose contract was not renewed last year when OUTLine ran into financial strife, as the recession bit into community funding. The return of the General Manager position follows the departure of Community Development Officer Susan Blick, who is pursuing another opportunity after five months in the part-time role. OUTLine's Richard Galloway says the organisation has been making do with several part-time staff, but has now managed to get funding for a one-year contract. "And we want to return to the management model of General Manager and Office Assistant, which has worked well for us in the past." The hunt for the new GM is a quick one, with an ad going up last week, applications closing tomorrow and interviews being held on Tuesday night. "It is a short period and we realise that," Galloway says. "But by the time we can appoint somebody and get a possible commitment by people who are already employed, in other words they just can't walk out of the job they're in – they might have to give one month two months notice. Then by the time we get somebody into the position and settled in and used to the organisation, Christmas is upon is." Galloway says it's about getting someone into the role and hitting their stride as quickly as is feasible. "We're looking for somebody with extensive networking skills within the wider GLBT community and somebody that can fundraise and build our capacity of volunteers and services," he says. "We are very positive at the moment. We've managed to secure some more funding, we've got our new premises and we're hoping with our new General Manager we'll have a big push into the community and into next year."
