Jamie Gates A 35-year-old IT consultant has won the title of Mr Urge Leather 2010 and will represent New Zealand at the annual Mr Australia/NZ Leatherman contest. Jamie Gates was speechless when announced as the winner at the Karangahape Rd bar last night. He defeated three other contestants to win the special Matt Wildbore trophy, which is dedicated to the Auckland doctor who died two years ago. GayNZ.com blogger Michael Stevens came second. Over two rounds the Leathermen hopefuls were quizzed on stage by Urge co-owner Paul Heard, before being sent into the crowd to collect money for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of New Zealand. Over $700 was raised in just 25 minutes. Heard said he was delighted with the night saying the crowd really got into it and the calibre of contestants was strong. "We would have been happy for any of them to represent Urge and New Zealand in Australia. We know Jamie will do us proud," he says. The Australasia crown is judged in Melbourne in November, with the winner gaining a place in the IML (International Mr Leather) contest in Chicago next year.
