New research suggests gay and lesbian adults are much heavier users of blogs and social networking than heterosexuals. In a poll of more than 2,000 Americans by Harris Interactive, 54 percent of gay and lesbian respondents say they read some type of blog, compared to only 40 percent of straight people questioned. The survey also found 36 percent of gay and lesbian adults read news and current issue blogs, compared to 25 percent of heterosexual adults. A third read blogs specifically tailored for gay and lesbian news and interests. More than half say they visit gay and lesbian blogs weekly, while one in five do so daily. Aside from blogs, gay and lesbian adults are also avid users of social networking sites. Three quarters of those surveyed are members of Facebook, compared to 65 percent of the straight adults. MySpace is the next most popular site, followed by LinkedIn and Twitter. More than half (55 percent) of the queer respondents say they visit social networking sites more at least once a day, while only 41 percent of straight adults surveyed report the same. Three out of ten gay men and women also say they visit sites several times a day, while only 17 percent of heterosexuals share that habit.
