Critics have acknowledged times are changing, with executive editor of TV Guide Craig Tomashoff telling Reuters he thinks we have entered a new era of what is considered family-friendly television. "We have reached the point where it is not a big deal to have gay characters on TV. There is a level of sophistication and how social issues are dealt with. And getting the stamp from the Emmys validates that." True Blood is among the Outstanding Drama Series nominees; however its Kiwi star Anna Paquin has not been nominated in any acting categories. Sir Ian McKellan has received a nomination for lead actor in a miniseries for The Prisoner. The 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards will be presented on 29 August in LA, hosted by Jimmy Fallon.
