A queer cabaret is set to raise a few eyebrows when it graces the stage in Wellington next month. Risqué will feature more than 20 gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender performers in mix of singing, dance, lip-synching, live comedy, spoken word and gender bending at The Ruby Lounge on Saturday 14 August. Producer-performers Cathie Sheat and Andy Harness of Tomboi Productions say the show is something Wellington hasn't seen the likes of for over 10 years. "We could see there was a void and it was hard for either of us to recall the last time we'd seen a really sumptuous variety show that featured fabulous GLBT performers showcasing themselves and their talent," says Harness. "Easily offended people should stay at home," she says. "Personally I think the whole show is entirely palatable but then I do have to remind myself that I'm a queer performer with fairly wide performance boundaries." Harness is promising an entertaining evening that's funny, provocative, button pushing, inspiring and "just plain fun". Dinner before the show can be arranged by booking directly with The Ruby Lounge on 04 472 6592. Risqué: The Ruby Lounge (14 Bond St, Wellington) Saturday 14th August, 9pm (show starts).
