Governor-General to be Outgames patron

Wed 30 Jun 2010 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback View at NDHA

Anand Satyanand Governor-General Sir Anand Satyanand has agreed to be the lead patron for the Wellington AsiaPacific Outgames. Co-chair David Hindley says it's a great honour. "We look forward to working with His Excellency and with Government House in the lead up to the Outgames next year." Hindley says Sir Anand's role as lead patron is especially appropriate for the games, as he is New Zealand's first Governor-General of Indian and Pacific ancestry. His grandparents were born in India and migrated to Fiji, while his parents were born in Fiji and migrated to New Zealand. The Outgames are made up of eight days of sports competition, a human rights conference, arts and cultural events and exhibitions, and parties. They will be held from Saturday 12 to Saturday 19 March 2011. More information is available at www.wellingtonoutgames.com
