Mr Gay UK in court on rape charges

Mark Carter A former Mr Gay UK has appeared in a Leeds court on rape and sexual assault charges. Police officer Mark Carter is accused of raping another man, three sexual assaults and an attempted sexual assault. He is also accused of possessing class C bodybuilding drug Stanazol. The 27-year-old has been granted conditional bail. He has been suspended from duty at West Yorkshire police. The Guardian reports the sexual assaults allegedly involve four different victims and are said to have taken place during a night out in December. Carter beat 25 other finalists to win the Mr Gay UK title at the Flamingo Club in Blackpool four years ago. He entered the contest with the backing of police – and said his main reason for entering was to change the public perception of the stereotypical gay man. He will be back in court in August.
