John Hurt as Quentin Crisp An Englishman in New York has won Best (Narrative) Feature in the 2010 Out Takes Audience Awards. The film stars John Hurt as writer Quentin Crisp, a reprisal of a role he first played in 1975 TV movie The Naked Civil Servant. Set during the 1980s and 1990s, it chronicles Crisp's later years in New York City. An Englishman in New York was an opening night film in both Auckland and Wellington. Last year Best (Narrative) Feature was a tie between Patrik 1.5 and Shelter, while Itty Bitty Titty Committee was the winner at the previous festival in 2007. Winner of Best Documentary was Out In The Silence, which looks at a 'firestorm of controversy ignited by a same-same wedding announcement in the local newspaper', in small town America. It has already picked up the Audience Award at the Hardacre Film Festival and the Alternative Spirit Award at the Rhode Island International Film Festival. Awakening (En Forelskelse) was voted Best Short (Narrative) Film. The Danish short is about a teenager who is attracted to his girlfriend's father.
