It's a massive weekend for the team behind next year's Wellington AsiaPacific Outgames, with a series of trans-Tasman events to mark the opening of registrations. There are three launches in New Zealand and two in Australia. The first will be held in Wellington and Brisbane on Friday, followed by launch events Auckland, Christchurch and Melbourne on Saturday. The 2nd Asia Pacific Outgames will run from 12-19 March, with sixteen sports confirmed. They are badminton, bridge, dancesports, diving, field hockey, golf, lawn bowls, mountain biking, netball, running, softball, squash, swimming, ten pin bowling, tennis and volleyball. Co-chair David Hindley says there are all kinds of ways people can participate. "If you're seriously competitive you can enter at that level. But there are also levels if you want to have a good social time and meet people." Hindley is encouraging people to look on the Outgames website to see how they might get involved. He says apart from the sports, there are arts and culture events and parties, as well as a human rights conference. The Outgames crew are also looking for volunteers, who do not need to be based in Wellington. "It's pretty much across the board we're looking for volunteers. We've got great people but as the time gets closer and more and more work needs to be done, we'd appreciate more people onboard," Hindley says. He points to media and marketing and fundraising are areas in particular where they need extra hands. Click here for more information on the Outgames and the registration launch events
