Nikita wins Miss Drag Wellington

Mon 7 Jun 2010 In: New Zealand Daily News

Nikita van der Kamp A former Aucklander has stolen the show at Wellington's Next Top Drag Queen. Nikita van der Kamp, aka Nicholas Brown, has been named Miss Drag Wellington 2010 at The Garden Club, taking the crown over from last year's winner Rhubarb Rouge. Co-organiser Andy Boreham says the event was a huge success, with people coming out in the pouring rain to help decide the winner. He says there were amazing efforts from all of the entrants, who included a real woman - Cherry Shortcake. The other competitors were Miss Malibu Thang, Felicity Frockaccino, PacPac Thunderc*nt and Gummy Sue. An audience member says "Miss van der Kamp wowed the crowds with her dazzling designer gowns, sparkling personality and a dance troupe starring former Miss Drag Auckland Ms Judy Chicago and former Miss Drag Wellington Miss Ellie Kat." The night was hosted by AaronandAndy.com's Shaaron and Shandy, who have thanked all of the sponsors and entrants, plus everyone who came along to make the event a huge success. Boreham says despite a few technical difficulties, they really pulled it off. "You wouldn't have known they were just two Hutt Valley girls last night." The judges included New Zealand's favourite drag queens, Buffy and Bimbo, who chose to camp it up in Wellington even though they were nominated in Auckland's Wigs on the Waterfront Awards, also held last night. "We're happy to be down here in Wellington!" Bimbo confessed to the audience after her performance.
