Fri 28 May 2010 In: International News

Robert Mugabe Two members of a gay rights group in Zimbabwe have been freed from custody. Ellen Chadian, who is the administrator of Gays and Lesbians of Zimbabwe and accountant Ignatius Muhambi were picked up during a raid. BBC reports they are facing charges of possessing pornographic material and insulting President Robert Mugabe. Homosexual acts are illegal in Zimbabwe, but the group has been allowed to operate openly. The two were released the two on Thursday until a trial set for 10 June, when they will face penalties of imprisonment or a fine. Their employer claims they were assaulted by police while in custody after their arrest last Friday. He says police want to add a charge of insulting President Mugabe, after a letter 'undermining' him was found during a raid.
