Long Yang Club finds its Master Chef

Wed 26 May 2010 In: New Zealand Daily News

The judges and winners After a tough grilling by a team of judges, a Thai dish has won a 'Master Chef' style competition run by the Long Yang Club in Auckland. Entries from LYC members brought the tastes of Holland, New Zealand, the Philippines, Thailand and the UK to the judges' table. A Thai entry took the top prize of $100, with a Dutch dish claiming the $75 second prize. Asian liaison officer Jessica Phuang from Auckland Central police headed the judging team, with Patric Seng of Saya Design and Auckland University chef James Phuttasawong completing the line-up. They had to assess the entries on appearance, taste and a short presentation given by each contestant about what their dish meant to them and their culture. After the judging, members of the audience were invited to taste the entries for themselves. The Master Chef event, which took place at Body Positive's headquarters, marked the culmination of the first six months of a new look social programme arranged by the club's recently formed events sub-committee. The Long Yang Club supports Body Postive as part of its policy to help local gay groups. Long Yang Club members will be back at Body Positive House on 13 June for a special film and pizza evening to mark the launch of the new Winter Social Programme. Long Yang Club International was founded in London in 1983, to provide activities at which gay men from different cultures can meet, learn to understand each other and make friends. The Auckland branch has been in existence for more than 10 years. Anyone who wants to know more can call or text 0226730588 or go to: www.longyangclub.org/auckland/
