Bangkok: "Generals are gay and poor leaders"

Tue 18 May 2010 In: International News

General Khattiya Sawatdiphol An ex-Thai army General, who was assisting the redshirt anti-government protesters before he was shot in the head two days ago, claimed to a reporter that many of the Thai Army hierarchy are gay and therefore not good soldiers. Khattiya Sawatdipho, aka Seh Daeng, told Globe and Mail reporter Mark MacKinnon that he had little respect for the leaders of the Thai army because many of Thailand's top generals are gay, and therefore somehow lack the requisite skills to lead an army. “They play golf. I am a warrior,” he explained, reportedly beating his chest for emphasis. “I am Rambo!” Khattiya remains in hospital in intensive care after an unknown gunman shot him while he was speaking with foreign reporters. The redshirts remain in a deadly impasse with the Thai military in the centre of Bangkok, with the inner city barricaded and the death toll at 37 according to latest reports.
