Phoenix gets black to basics

Tue 18 May 2010 In: Events View at Wayback View at NDHA

With the Autumn chill setting in, organisers of this Saturday's Phoenix party are urging fun-lovers to "leave the knitting at home" and come along and heat up the dance floor. Phoenix has moved to Pyramid, the old Centro venue on Auckland's Wyndham St. Promoter Marty Roberts says the old Phoenix events in the basement of the Galatos were fairly basic, with great music but no real lighting production. "The move to Pyramid has allowed us to expand Phoenix into two separate dance zones and to incorporate stunning full-colour M2 lasers on the main dance floor – similar to those used at the Salvation parties." The theme is black, something which proved popular a couple of years ago. Roberts says it's a simple theme and easy to get into. "Be it leather, lycra, sports gear, army stealth uniforms, or just jeans and t-shirts - the possibilities are endless. People can be as wholesome or as sexy as they like." Roberts says there will be two dance zones; the main dance floor with down and dirty beats, plus a more chilled out Gay Republic cocktail lounge. Resident main room DJs Donald Bennett, Marty, Mauri and Raj will return, while the VIP Lounge Bar will feature Gay Republic DJs Katie Rey and Dubby24. Roberts says Phoenix always provides a great opportunity to meet new people and to make new friends in a safe, attitude-free environment. "There have also been tickets purchased from Sydney and Wellington, so chances are there will be plenty of fresh new faces for people to see."
